Apply Your Skills; Case for Critical Analysis

What positive and negative managerial characteristics do Jamika Possess?

Jamika has a great reputation as a manager who works very hard and takes care of her people. I think that she is great in doing that but she needs some work in some areas. From the analysis I can tell that she does not work well under pressure. She also let two popular hairdressers get away with things on the past and the day that she needs them the most they called in sick and she does not know how to handle the situation and ends up making a scene on the salon in front of everyone. I think that if she had made it clear to the two hairdressers from the beginning about her expectations she wouldn’t be having this issue with them two. I also think that as a manager you are also a leader, as a good leader she has to be able teach, coach and mentor her workers so that one day they will be able to do her job if she needs them to and not to be afraid that because they have potential to do so hide it from everyone so that they don’t still her job.

How do these traits help or hinder her potential to get the top position at the Riverwood Mall salon?

I think that instead of helping her it hinders her because it shows the company officials that she cannot handle greater responsibility and that the top position is not for her. If Jamika shows that she is capable of handling any situation, works well under any circumstances I think she can get the job. As a manager and a leader she has to be able to control her workers and prioritize her workload and also be able to trust you workers to handle any situation instead of trying to take care of every situation that arises by herself that can make once job very difficult.
