Taking the risk

When I was 16 years old I brought my son, Ezekiel, into the world. From the very start, my parents took control and never gave me the chance to take on the responsibility of being a mother and raising my child. One night I took a risk and defended myself explaining to them that Ezekiel was my child and therefore my responsibility. My father didn't appreciate my speaking out and physically threw me out the house. Unfortunately, I had no means to provide a stable roof over my head, let alone my sons', so I was forced to leave him behind and figure a plan of action. From that point on, my goal was to do whatever it took to get my son back. I worked two full-time jobs and over the course of three years I saved ten thousand dollars. With so many opportunities at my hand, my fiancé and I decided that the only way I could accomplish my goal was if we moved out-of-state. Right then we packed a bag each, picked up my son from my parents house and hopped on a plane to The Volunteer State. Taking a big risk and moving to Tennessee changed my life in many ways, for better and for worse.

Most importantly, moving to Tennessee gave me the wonderful gift of motherhood. I get to care for my son everyday and raise him with my standards. Unlike most parents, I love getting up early every morning to get him ready for school. Watching him wipe his eye boogers away, making him breakfast, getting him dressed and spending the little time we have before the bus comes feeding the birds and bunnies is absolutely heartwarming. However, my favorite part of the day is when he's home from school. I get to help him with his homework and make him dinner. Then I make him shower, brush his teeth, and right before bed we read a few books together. It's the best! The weekends are especially fun because I get paid and I can take him on any adventure we want. The quality time we have together is amazing! I learn...
