Who Do I Turn To

An eating disorder, one may eat too much while others may not eat enough or not eat at all. In the journey of life, you find that some people are faced with a decision. They come to a breaking point where the mind stops its normal course and takes on another thought pattern; one that deludes, deceives and disrupts a disciplined life style to forego an undiscovered myth of reaching a number on the size chart that is lesser than zero.

Body image has to do with your perception on how you think about your size and shape. Your perception of how you think about your body relates to how you think about yourself as a whole. Having a negative body image often links to low self-esteem, anxiety, depression , some people feel the need to stop eating which causes and creates eating disorders, dieting and self-doubt.

As I read “WINTERGIRLS” I was surprised, sadden and deeply disturbed about the content of information presented in the novel. Lets revisit in summary.

Lia Overbrook and Cassie Parrish were best friends since the third grade, but as they grew up, both develop destructive obsessions with body image. Lia and Cassie ridiculed each other because they were afraid of dealing with there demons. Lia, anorexic and Cassie a victim of bulimia. During the years there were competition between the two, and when the going got tough [in the months before their senior year in high school] Cassie broke off the friendship, and left Lia devastated. Six months later, after not having communicated with her [Cassie]ex-friend in ages, Lia received thirty-three phone calls from Cassie in one evening, but refused to answer. When she [Lia]discovered the next day that Cassie had died a grisly death brought on by her own excesses alone in an isolated motel room, Lia realized that Cassie was calling for help, and now she is wrecked with guilt.
