Case Study 2: SKILLSFORTOMORROW

This case study analyzed Skills For Tomorrow, a government-sponsored organization that helps at-risk young adults gain vocational training toward preparing them for a successful career in a variety of areas including automotive, construction, health care, and information technology. Jones was brought in as a lead consultant from Hancher consulting to help with the morale issues among the management team of STF. During the consultant company’s time with STF, they were able to help to evaluate the issues at the company and found that there was much more than just poor morale to account for the problems there.

1. With the company’s struggle for trying to remain alive and keep their jobs, everyone seems to be worried about themselves and not collaborating among the other departments in the company. Directors do not get along and there is focus for on each department instead of focusing on how to make the company succeed as a whole. The budget cut that the company recently had only made this problem between directors and the departments worse. There is a lack of trust between the Executive Director and the other directors and this keeps them from wanting to share their feelings as well as being open to change. The lack of trust leads to a everyone for themselves mentality which is another cause for the disjoint among various teams. Many of the employees have personal issues with each other and this tends to feed into the company and the way everyone works with each other. I believe communication is key and it seems this company is lacking severely in it. The Executive Director seems to be pulled into too many directions and doesn’t take the time to understand and hear the real problems that are going on in the company. He believes that the problems can be fixed in a short time period and it seems that these problems have been brewing for a while making the solutions to the problem a more drawn out process than he wants to take or...
