The Power of Autonomy and Learning

As the project manager for the joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile program, my vision statement would include initiating priorities to foster alliances and developing collaborative relations among members of my team. This would give the team members a sense of confidence in themselves. I would develop an analytical approach towards management issues because it is the only way to arrive at a solution for any management problem. The most important way to be successful is being able to do things differently from the conventional way. I would assemble a group of people in my team whom I believe are change agents and send them for a training session or for special visit to other well performing companies.

Terry Little performed so many actions aimed at fostering high levels of performance. He ensured that his team finished projects within a short period of time and insisted that if programs were not completed within a period of six months, then it would rather not be called a project. Terry was a no nonsense person who scared people with his way of handling things. He directed his team to finish the projects within the set time, failure to which they would be dismissed from their duties. He had the reputation of firing people at any time he felt it was necessary to do so. He encouraged his team to face challenges head-on. This however seemed so hard in the first few days but he ensured that the team developed the attitude and the belief that it was possible to complete projects within six months (Duggan, 2012).
