Legalizing Gambling Across the Untied States

Gambling has been legal for years in some states. When you say gambling, most people instantly think of casinos. Yes, they are the biggest form of gambling, with many different games you can play. Personally, I support gambling because it increases revenue for the state through taxes, also creates jobs, boosts the economy, gives the elderly some happiness and a reason to live. After those facts, I must say I would like to see the legalization of gambling across the United States.

Spreading the legalization of gambling is needed to increase the economy and tax revenue for states. In the 23 states with commercial casinos in operation in 2012, casinos contributed approximately eight and a half billion in tax revenue to state and local government. That was an 8.5 percent increase over the total in 2011. The revenue from those taxes benefits education, public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. My home state of Pennsylvania got one and a half billion from taxes, which is about one eighth of the total of the 22 other states (Tax Payments).

Gambling is a great thing in moderation. It's just like alcohol or candy. Too much can be terrible for your health. opponents argue that it gives people that are suffering from gambling addiction, more opportunities to mess up by going to a casino. It draws tension in their family and can cause more crime within the house and at the casino. Another claim they make is that through casinos come tourists. Many of the tourists will have money to spend, which causes beggars to constantly harass people trying to go to the casino for a fun time or even to go to a glamorous dinner in the casino. Honestly, these are strong arguments but I believe that it is their problem to solve on their own or with help. Alcohol is legal and people can suffer from alcohol addiction.
