Are school bus stops safe?

As the years have progressed so have the dangers at the school bus stop, as a safe mode of transportation as it is proclaimed to be, school buses have become associated with accidents that have left parents questioning the safety of their children with frequency; many of those taking place at the bus stop leaving such an impact in the community that it has to be addressed in order to prompt the attention of the people to enforce the necessary precautions. Even though many of those dangers have existed for quite some time, they have gradually escalated in some of the areas without any positive change raising many questions which have yet to be answered. Will it take an act of congress to get people moving? Taking steps to minimize the dangers children are exposed to while they load and unload school bus, not an uncommon practice but majorly needed in some areas; parents and school officials and personnel alike must join forces in a combined effort to keep young ones out of harm’s way and reducing the amount of mishaps for better and safer school bus stops.

Highway Traffic Safety Administration (July 2010), the designation of routes and school bus stops are created by the school districts along with certain guidelines to educate not only bus drivers but parents as well; parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their children’s to and from the bus stop route to identify potential risks and how to take the necessary actions to prevent them. In essence, it requires the involvement of both school personnel and parents with the purpose of providing information which can be shared in numerous ways to help individuals understand and participate in creating a safer environment for children.
