I chose option number one, which is what was undesirable about certain jobs I have had, and what could be done differently to make them better. The first job I wanted to go over is a job I used to have working as an employee at Office Depot. I realize the pay is not always great when working in the retail industry, however I worked there for two years full time and never got paid much more then what I started at. Another issue I had while working at Office Depot was that I ended up being forced to work multiple positions that I never intended to when I was initially hired. Poor management was also a problem in the store that I worked at, and we ended up going through three different store managers before the store finally closed down. I think that mainstream economics best explains the reason that Office Depot was such a bad place to work. The employees didn’t seem to really benefit from the way things were run, and that includes the assistant managers and store managers.

Another job I had was at Kites Bar & Grill in Manhattan Kansas, which was quite similar to my experience at Office Depot. The pay was absolutely terrible there and I was actually lied to from the beginning about how much I would end up making. The hours on certain days were ridiculously long, but on other days there weren’t enough hours to go around. Employees really were not treated very well at all either, and that made things worse for everyone. I know exactly who was benefiting from the way the bar and grill was being run. One family who owned and managed the restaurant was making lots of money off of the employees who did not have good working conditions in any way or form. My conclusion for that job is also that the school of thought was mainstream economics.
