How does Hosseini presents the factors that affect the identity of Hassan and Amir in the opening three Chapters of ‘The Kite Runner’?

In Chapter one of the Kite Runner; Hosseini states “I remember the precise moment, crouching behind a crumbling mud wall, peeking into the alley near the frozen creek” The factor being used here may be ‘Culture’ this affects Amir because it gives us a hint that Amir may be hiding most of the time, looking out for himself, or others; because maybe of his Culture. Hosseini uses first person as a form, and this emphasises how personal it is and it makes it more believable, he also uses the word ‘crumbling’ maybe to highlight that the wall will eventually break down and Amir will be out in the open.

Furthermore, in Chapter two of the Kite Runner; Hosseini states “Hassan never wanted to, but if I asked, really asked, he wouldn’t deny me. Hassan never denied me.” The factor being used here is ‘Friendship’ this affects both Amir and Hassan, because they both need each other, as neither of them have a mother. Also from this quote, it highlights that Hassan is very loyal, because he always listened to Amir, even if it meant a telling from his dad. Hosseini uses the words ‘He wouldn’t deny me’ (this comes under language) which tells us that Amir is in control of their friendship and thinks he can toy around with Hassan; however, because Hassan is a loyal friend, he will do it; but he is blinded from Amir, and cannot see that he is controlling him.

Moreover, Hosseini uses “I went past the rosebushes to Baba’s mansion. Hassan to the mud shack” The factor being used here is ‘Wealth’ this affects Hassan the most, because he is poor, and he sees Amir as a role model type, because he lives in a mansion and is rich. This puts more pressure on Hassan because it makes him feel like he is not wanted in that Country.
