Nonverbal Communication Observation

Subject: The subject that I utilized for my experiment was my significant other. I chose to use him as my subject because I knew that it would be interesting to see his reaction and this experiment would enable me to know him a little bit better. My partner and I are usually affectionate towards each other. Whether it is when we are watching television together or walking down the street holding hands. Before starting this experiment, I understood that any behavior contrary to me being affectionate towards him would be unusual and maybe even put my relationship in jeopardy.

Non-Verbal Behavior: As stated previously, my partner and I are usually affectionate towards each other but on Saturday, February 7th 2015,I decided to put distance between myself and him. I decided to be completely unaffectionate towards him the entire day. In the morning time, I made breakfast just for myself and ate it in front of him. When he asked me why I did not make him breakfast as well, I replied that I was tired. It was a very awkward situation. After I left home for work, I rarely answered his phone calls but when I do, I kept the conversation short. On one of the calls, he asked me if anything was wrong. I replied that I was perfectly fine. I did not want to make him feel worse than he already was. This moment was funny to me but he certainly did not see it that way. After work, my partner asked me if I wanted to go to the movies. We went to the movies but I kept my distance as well. I did not hold his hand, hug him or even cuddle with him. I could see the frustration in him and I hated it but kept the act going.

Reaction: Throughout the experiment, my partner knew that something was wrong but he could not figure it out. He thought that he did something wrong and asked me to let him know what he did that angered me. I replied that he did nothing wrong. My guess is that he probably thought I was going to leave him or that I was involved with someone else. That was an uncomfortable...
