Introduction

The objective of this essay is to offer a critical evaluation of the impact of globalization on the car-manufacturing sector of the United Kingdom. By using Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) as a case study organization, this paper will describe in detail the manner in which the process of internationalization provides impetus to the UK car-manufacturing sector. Considerable preeminence in the discussions made herein will be placed on illuminating the trade and non-trade barriers, which affects car manufacturers in the UK. This report will also discuss significant international differences in culture, language, and regulatory frameworks such as intellectual property protection, and the impact they have on the UK car manufacturing industry. In order to remain relevant and updated, this report is informed by sources published between 2007 and 2015.

UK Car Manufacturing Industry

The automotive sector is the largest sector in the UK in regards to exports. SMMT Motor Industry Facts (2014) reveals that the United Kingdom is comprised of seven companies engaged in the commercial manufacture of vehicles, seven volume car manufacturers and nine firms engaged in the manufacture of buses and coaches. Moreover, the UK has 8 Formula One Teams and 8 firms engaged in the manufacture of premium and sports cars (SMMT Motor Industry Facts, 2014). Richard (2009) reveals that the total output of cars manufactured in the UK in 2008 was approximately 1.65 million.
