THE OBAMACARE POLICY PROCESS MODEL

Introduction

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a health reform law, which was signed into law by the US president Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Its aim is to give more Americans access to inexpensive, quality health insurance by expanding private and public insurance coverage and to reduce the growth in healthcare spending in the US. There are a few provisions that comprise the Obamacare bill (Alex).

Children may be hid by their parents’ insurance plan until the age of 26. They can remain in their parents’ plan even if they are wedded, no longer living with their parents, financially independent, or qualified to join in their employer’s plan. Insurance providers will not be allowed to set exceptional insurance terms for children under nineteen years irrespective of their health history (Kevin).

There can be no discrimination grounded on gender or pre-existing conditions with the only exception being tobacco use. Insurance companies cannot withdraw coverage from sick people. It is also illegal for insurance firms to cancel your insurance cover because of an authentic mistake or omission of some information during the application. After one year, all the insurance companies should give a summary of no more than four pages to their customer, of their coverage and benefits. If there are alterations that are needed to be made, the insured must be notified at least sixty days before the changes are effected failure to which a fine of $1,000 is paid by the insurer. The summary, however, is not a real contract.

The Health Insurance Marketplace allows business and individuals to compare plans and enroll for coverage through the website www.healthcare.gov.
