City Council Meeting

I attended the city council meeting on Tuesday March 18, 2014. The meeting opened up with the pledge of allegiance, followed by a prayer. After a few opening comments by the Mayor, who leads the council meeting, discussion on the policies began.

One of the first policies the council started on was the adopting of zoning Amendment No. 1292 to rezone 1431 20th Avenue East from R-3 and BGO to BN. It was a previous matter that had been brought up at last weeks meeting. It was given a week so that the proper people could go out and talk to the residence about the new Amendment. The man speaking upon the Amendment No.1292 stated they had nothing new to bring forward to council. The council then was given the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the amendment. It was then open upped to public questions or concerns. Mr. Ray, a representative of the Amendment, gave a few details about the amendment such as: there would be no alcohol sales on the property, no sale of tobacco products, no tattoo parlors, and no check cashing properties. These were all past concerns that council had with the amendment that the representatives fixed into the amendment. Mr. Ray then asked council that if they would all give him a "yes" vote then they could get started on the project. After Mr. Ray was finished, the head of council then reminded everyone that it was a public hearing, so the public was now allowed to voice his or her opinion. He also stated that it was a first come first serve to the podium, and that each person had a five minute clock to address council (the clock was on the side of the room.) Not one person representing the public came to the podium; therefore council announced their pleasure with the Amendment No. 1292 to rezone 1431 20th Avenue East.
