Changing Landscape of Health Care

The landscape of healthcare has been and continues to evolve. It is moving from a business to business model, to a business to consumer model, this means the consumers will obtain more control over our all our own healthcare decision than ever before. However many consumers do not fully understand the real cost related to the care, and several consumers are not fully aware or familiar with the health insurance coverage option available to them base on their life cycle. Which leads me to the topic of my paper.

In this paper I am going to explain the shift taking place currently in healthcare. The shift from acute care to wellness and prevention along with the shift in accountability. I will describe current and potential challenges with the healthcare system. I will identify health care cost for consumers. And consider how the cost for consumer has evolved. I will further discus what are consumers reactions. Finally I will explain how the healthcare system is handling challenges. And are they effective.

As we explain the shifts taking place in the healthcare industry we must look as we are approaching an exciting paradigm shift in patient engagement as we move away from being mostly a provider controlled industry to consumer driven industry. For example, the key reason for the shift was the Affordable Care Act (ACA) this deals with the changing in health insurance coverages. These types of adjustments have permitted for better access to the patient health information as well as caused for larger demand of the consumers health information through now different forms of technology devices such as the Electronic health record (EHR) smartphones, and telehealth devices.
