Outline for Investment Fund Plan

Background and Purpose

The traditional business plan is utilized by entrepreneurs to raise capital from investors. Just as importantly, it is a vital tool forcing management to consider a variety of issues and ensure proper planning. In essence, the business plan is a written document setting out where the company is headed, how if will get there and what it will look like. This document can be used both internally and externally. Internally so your team is working toward the same goal. Externally it may be used to supplement fundraising activities.

This outline is provided as a general guide for the written document that will be turned in to Professor Donnell. The format is suggested but to the extent you believe a different order will present your information more clearly, you may deviate from the suggested format (except the Executive Summary must always be first). However, make sure you cover all the requested information.

I. Executive Summary

The Executive Summary is the critical piece of any business document. Busy professionals receive many investment opportunities and few are of interest. A poorly written Executive Summary will often result in a memo or other business document being place in the “round file”. The Executive Summary is not a complete summary of every issue in your document but rather the critical factors to consider. For purposes of this document your Executive Summary need to contain at a minimum:

• Mission & Objectives of the Fund (not of the business plan – we know that – some of the web examples focus on the purpose of the plan)

• Summary of the Fund Structure and Its Management Team
