INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETION

This Learning Journal is designed to be completed as you progress through your first year. You will not be

formally marked on your work until it is submitted, Monday 2 March 2015. However, for it to be of any

help, you should complete each section according to the schedule below. You should bring it to class

each week, as there will often be an opportunity to draft your answers in class, and to gain feedback

from your peers and your tutor as you progress.

When completing each section, your answers need to be in the form of paragraphs with full sentences

(rather than bullet points), and you need to explore each issue fully. Do not write long essays for each

answer – generally, a couple of paragraphs will do. But we will be marking you on the depth of your

engagement with the question, even where this is your reflection on your own experience and your own

skill set. So for high marks you should not rush the final version, but take your time to explore the issue

at hand.

You will be provided with a hard copy of the journal in your second class, and this is where you should

draft your answers. However, the final version must be typed onto the electronic template, which is on

StudySpace, and submitted electronically. (NOTE: the electronic template does not include parts of the

journal which are not designed to be marked, such as your answers in the Political Compass).
