Self-Portrait of a Chinese

I felt particularly proud as a Chinese when I saw the magnificent performance at 2008 Beijing Olympics because I perceived the brilliant Chinese culture. It was a dancing show. Several performers danced on a big stage which seemed like a Chinese art paper. They danced all around the ‘paper’ just as they were making ink paintings. It was really a wonderful combination of the dancing art and Chinese painting art. At that time, I deeply understood the saying that, ’what belongs to the nation belongs to the world!’ Although the dancing movement was very simple, it conveyed the Chinese cultural concept of ‘gentleness’ and the beauty of Chinese paintings. I was attracted by the performance and was really proud of our Chinese culture.

I felt particularly proud as a Chinese when I returned China and had Chinese traditional cuisines after my travel to Korea because it was a taste of hometown and Chinese food really boasts variety and delicacy. When I lived in China, I was accustomed to Chinese cuisines and preferred to eat some foreign cuisines, of which I loved Korean cuisines most. After several days’ journey, I gradually lost the interest in Korean barbecues and bibimbap and missed our Chinese cuisines. When we lived in the national environment, we were eager to come into contact with foreign cultures. Actually, the profound and extensive Chinese culture is better in many matters. For example, the Chinese food had various cooking methods, rich ingredients, and delicate cooking procedures. There is rarely other countries’ food superior to Chinese food. In addition, I loved our country’s food out of hometown complex.

I felt particularly proud when I read the history of the national rejuvenation in Anti-Japanese War because it aroused a sense of instinctive patriotism.
