Lab 2: Application of the Top-Down Network Design Methodology
Lab Report
1. What are the business goals? (10 points)
The current business goals are to improve the IT wing and department to better for student growth within the school. We are planning to update the phones within the business besides the network and accesses for the network.
2. What are the business constraints? (10 points)
Some business constraints for this project would be timing to make sure we are not interfering with class times and scheduling. If this does conflict there would have to be some work around of holding the class or process in another room to not disturb interactions.
3. What are the technical goals? (10 points)
* Connect all of the buildings to the new IT wing of the administration building.
* Provide controlled wireless access for the students in each classroom.
* Provide open wireless access for the students and the local population in the areas outside of each building.
* Provide a high-speed wired network connection to each faculty office.
* Provide a centralized online backup of all data designated for backup.
* Replace the PBX-based telephone system with a VOIP-based system.
4. What are the technical constraints? (10 points)
Some technical constraints when running this project would be placement of all the equipment and where to properly run the lines so they are neat and simpler like. Another constraint is choosing the proper addressing scheme to make sure there is enough room for the existing users and growth. These both play key and can be sometimes the most important when updating a network for a business.
5. Diagram the existing network. (10 points)
