ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION.

In today’s business world, technology has become an invaluable part of business organizations and in this regard the chemist as a case study can be used to show how effectively technology can be used to addresses some of the business challenges. This is a far cry from the early years of industrialization where technology wasn’t really a major factor in running businesses. Technology is a vast and extensive field therefore in this report I will narrow down to a sector of technology i.e. Information Systems as it is the area that contains the bulk of the solutions needed in any business organization. By definition an Information Systems is an arrangement of people, data, processes, and information technology that interact to collect, process, store, and provide as output the information needed to support an organization. There are many types of information systems, these information systems can be classifies as:

* Transaction Processing Systems (TPS). These systems deal with the processing of the core day-to-day functions of a business. These systems capture and process data about business transactions.

* Management Information Systems (MIS). These systems use transaction data to produce information needed by managers to run operations efficiently and effectively. These systems provide management-oriented reporting based on transaction processing and operations of the organization. The chemist could benefit in a number of ways by implementing this system.

* Decision Support Systems (DSS). Decision Support Systems contain a lot of analytical logic that is able to combine disparate information to produce new information. These systems enable the management to make informed decisions. These...
