Introduction

In the following network infrastructure, we are called to upgrade the network of UMUC branch office located in Mannheim of Germany using best practices to eliminate collisions, lower the broadcast domain size and provide solutions for centralized management, automation and security strengthen. VLANs with inter-VLAN routing will be implemented and servers relocation. Furthermore protocol standards such as 802.1x will be used in order to secure the wireless portion of the network. Finally, the whole network is designed to provide redundancy and congestion avoidance using ether channel technology shown in the physical network topology. New servers are installed to provide independent resource allocation for specific services such mail server, database server and backup server.

Network Addressing:

Main subject in this infrastructure is security and the broadcast domain decreasing, for these reasons the network will be divided in smaller subnets known as VLAN’s. With the use of VLAN’s we will also split logically UMUC’s network as the users of departments are not located all in the same room. (Miura et al, 2005).

VLAN 10 – Servers 10.15.10.0/24 (Servers will assigned with Static IP addresses).

VLAN 20 – Printers 10.15.20.0/24 (Printers will assigned with Static IP addresses).

VLAN 30 – Office staff 10.15.30.0/24

VLAN 40 – Office admission 10.15.40.0/24

VLAN 50 – Library staff 10.15.50.0/24

VLAN 60 – I.C.L 10.15.60.0/24

VLAN 70 – S.C.L 10.15.70.0/24

VLAN 90 – Public 10.15.90.0/24

VLAN 100 – Wi-Fi 10.15.100.0/25 (only 127 available IP’s to avoid overcrowd)

With the use of VLAN’s every department will use its subnet, for instance staff workstations will belong to VLAN 30,...
