Micromax made its debut in March 2000, when it was incorporated as Micromax Informatics Private Limited. However, it entered Mobile Handset Industry only in 2008. Therefore, it can be said that Micromax Mobile, as it exists today was formed in 2008 and it has since then rapidly grown to become leading domestic mobile handset company in India Micromax has grown from no. 20 brand to a no. 3 brand w.r.t. market share in just 2 years of launching its handset business. The reason for this success is not only because of good marketing strategy, new product introduction but good market research as well. Introduction of following products shows how research helped Micromax to get ahead of other competitors 1) First Long Battery life phone As the people in villages did not get uninterrupted electric supply, so there was a need of providing a product with long battery life. This problem was resolved by Micromax and leveraged this opportunity for its advantage.
2) First Dual-sim phone In India, there is a stiff competition but various mobile service providers. To overcome this the service providers give special offers to woo customers and customers in order to take advantage of this use more than 1 sim. But it was difficult to carry more than one mobile phone. Micromax overcame this problem by introducing Dual Sim mobile phones before any other mobile company. 3) First women's line of devices As women like to carry trendy and fashionable products. Micromax targeted female population of the country and introduced women's line of products.
