Abstract

The objective of this paper is to train health care providers and Veterans and Health care providers about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the types of treatment offered through the various health organizations. There will be several questions presented and answered in detail throughout the paper. In addition to my conclusion of the facts that I have gathered, I hope to expand the training and understanding of PTSD and how different treatments vary. This research studies the public’s common misunderstand of PTSD of Veterans whose deployment occurs after September 11, 2001 and Civilians who have experienced a traumatic event. It is found that Veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) have a 19% higher rate of PTSD then previous wars. Previous research suggests that this may be due to high survivability rate in combat and advances in medical technology.
