1.) Why were the ideas of Freud so innovative? Are his concepts still relevant today?

Freud presented thoughts and theories in the nineteenth century that added uncertainties to the age. The major ideas were published in 1900 and these ideas were used to lay the foundation for psychoanalysis. His ideas were innovative because he allowed for the elaboration on the inner life of human beings. He also challenged and changed the belief in the primacy of rational thought over human emotion. His concepts are still relevant today because the work being done by modern day psychologists are based off of the findings, principles and concepts set forth by Freud.

2.) Explain what Tennyson wrote about in his poem The Princess.

I believe what Tennyson is writing about the growing interest in the state of women’s equality in his country, particularly in regards to the education of women.

3.) What was meant by the term “White Man’s Burden”? Be specific.

What is meant by the term “White Man’s Burden” is in fact the Western society was shifting its views on keeping to themselves to trying to show the primitive people from Asia and Africa how to “properly” live. The Western society wanted to bring the benefits of democracy and capitalism, but did not take into thought of the transformation of Asian and African people, into “little brown Americans,” failing. These two societies would remain distinctive from those in the West.

4.) How was Western imperialism both beneficial to colonial powers and subjects alike?

Western imperialism was beneficial because it created conditions for economic development globally. It also created a universal application of democratic institutions, although the immediate consequences of imperialism were unfortunate and painful. It brought vast expansion of the international trade network.

5.) Why did both China and Japan resist from being trading...
