Module 1, Lesson 1: Vocabulary Assignment

High school students, are one in their own. Everyone is different in their own way. If you were to walk into a high school guidance office right now, you would be able to experience firsthand evidence of psychological perspectives. Below are some scenarios Mrs. Johns, a high school guidance counselor, uses often.

Alex is a homosexual, and he recently has been bullied by other students. After all of the bullying, he was finally fed up with it, so looked to Mrs. Johns for guidance. To help Alex, Mrs. Johns did some research on homosexuality and a question that often comes up is, “Is homosexuality due to nature or nurture?” and “What is the main influence on a person, their environment or their genetics?”

Logan has been very upset lately, she went to the guidance office to seek help from Mrs. Johns. Through the usage of her neuroscience perspective Mrs. Johns, advised Logan the reason she has been upset is due to how her neurons in her brain have been interacting with one another.

Benjamin has down syndrome and Mrs. Johns is his counselor. Through the usage of her evolutionary perspective, Mrs. Johns knows that due to evolution, Benjamin has down syndrome.

Tyler has been having a serious drug problem. Mrs. Johns was informed by another student, so through hypnosis and the use of her psychodynamic perspective, she put Tyler into a trance and advised him, that drugs were bad, and he needed to veer away from the path he was on.

Sarah has been involved in a lot of drama recently, and looked for assistance from guidance. Her guidance counselor, Mrs. Johns, advised her through the usage of a behavioral perspective, she needed to physically remove herself from the situation, and get away from all the drama.

Micah has been having irrational thoughts, and a changing thought pattern. Mrs. Johns told him he needed to use his cognitive perspective to help him get through his troubling thoughts.
