am a second generation Nigerian immigrant. My parents raised me with the West African values, food, and family ideals on American soil, from which I picked up the remainder of my culture. To Nigerians I would be considered Americanized but to Americans I seem more African. I've taken up the American accent and general lifestyle, but many of my cultural interests, tendencies of speech, values concerning honor and family, etc. stem from my upbringing by African parents. I still have trouble understanding the deeper aspects of both cultures, and sometimes feel like I'm missing out on parts of both because I'm neither fully American or fully Nigerian, but I feel enriched because of my multifaceted cultural heritage on most days. It gives me a better perspective of what culture is as well as its value. And besides that, Nigerian food is f-ing delicious.
