Analysis For SAI Toys
By Bradley Butcher
Executive Summary:
1) The Viability of IT Systems Expansion;
SAI Toys present IT system consists of four (4) unrelated and distinct systems for
a) Public Website on the internet;
b) Manufacturing Support System (MSS);
c) Human Resources System (HRS);
d) Sales and Marketing System (SMS);
To expand the current SAI systems and make them inter-related and reliably functional
has proven to be a insurmountable task in many organizations. The integration of new
software into a newly expanded IT system which utilizes in some cases first generation
coding on legacy hardware can create operational problems which in-house IT staff may
be unable to solve.
SAI can not afford the possibility of IT system failure given the highly competitive
market in which they operate. New product design, manufacture, and marketing require
that their IT system be fully functional 24/7 with no downtime.
2) The Viability of Utilizing Cloud Computing;
SAI Toys is not in the computer business. While computers are essential to the design,
manufacture and marketing of their products, SAI would be well served by having their

IT systems vertically integrated and maintained in a cloud computing environment,
eliminating most of their IT department employees in the process. This reduction of costs
in IT would allow a shift of those financial resources to Research and Development, an
area which is ultimately critical to the overall success of the enterprise.
An argument could be made here that in-house IT expansion would be a negative
development for SAI Toys while it cannot be argued that expansion of Research and
Development (R&D) would be anything less than an assurance of continued market
leadership.
