Introduction
The amount of computer crime and the economic loss to victims has increased. This is partly because many of these crimes are not detected by victims and many of these crimes are never reported to authorities. Experts in computer security speak of "information warfare". While such "information warfare" is just another name for computer crime, the word "warfare" does fairly denote the amount of damage inflicted on society.
Computer crime can be divided into two main categories, internal and external. Internal computer crime is attributable to persons with authorized access to the computer system in question, such as an employee. Today, most security breaches that occur within a company are internal. The second major category of computer crime is external computer crime. External crimes consist of unauthorized invasions of a system by outside persons, commonly known as hackers. With millions of desktop machines in use today, it is estimated that literally hundreds of thousands of people have now acquired the skills necessary to penetrate most systems.
There are a lot risks associated with computer crimes such as phising/scamming, computer viruses, malicious programs, unauthorized use, cyber stalking/harassment and cyberterriosm. This paper will examine the growing problem of computer crimes in society today....
