The American Dream Lived Happily Ever After

Over time America has established itself as beacon of hope. People from all over the world believe that coming to America will afford them with opportunities not possible anywhere else. Those who were born and raised in the country of stars and stripes hold their head high in the belief that they are striving for one of the most celebrated dreams. The American dream is a children’s story, preached from infancy. Within it we find hope, integrity and encouragement. Over time it has been told and interpreted in many different ways, and what were are left with now is a fable, millions find inspiration within, but what the majority cherish is the idea, because the reality is incoherent. Like any fairytale there is an applicable moral, but the story itself is not realistic, because it does not accurately take into account the personal circumstances that influence how individuals are able to orchestrate their lives.

When settlers originally came to America many were escaping religious persecution. They wanted to come to a place where they were free to conduct their lives as they saw fit. This soon evolved into a place where people could own land and provide for themselves, to living in a place where the playing field was level, and the opportunities were the same for everyone. Today the American dream is about owning your own home, having a family that you are able to provide for, a good job , minimal economic worry and the ability to improve on your situation however you may wish. But that is just a generalization, because the American dream has different meanings for different people. For people who have immigrated it may be a better chance for them to support their families. For people who grew up in poverty it may be the hope of having a life better than their parents had. There are peoples whose American dream is becoming a multi-millionaire and there are people whose American dream is being able to make rent every month...
