Bank Manger Profile

Bank managers are responsible for everything that goes on in the bank branches they manage. Most importantly, bank managers are responsible for managing branch employees. They review the work of branch employees and offer suggestions for improvements. A bank manager may sometimes have to play the role of a public relations person. Some clients, particularly large businesses, like to know that the bank manager is personally involved with their accounts. This may require the bank manager to spend time in meetings with the branch’s key customers. Customers with serious complaints may insist on dealing directly with the bank manager.

Bank managers are also responsible for maximizing the profitability of their branches. This involves attracting new customers and keeping the existing ones happy and satisfied. To draw new customers in, and increase business with those they already have, bank managers design clever marketing plans. Managers strive to create a positive spirit of teamwork among branch employees. That’s because customers are more likely to do business with a bank whose employees are helpful, patient, and friendly.

A bank manager will usually work at least nine, and sometimes 10 hours a day. Bank managers generally work in large comfortable offices.

Many bank managers start out in a management trainee program. Entrance into these programs often requires an undergraduate degree or at least some college courses

Bank managers earn anywhere from $35,000 to $70,000 a year, depending on the size of the bank, the branch, location and performance. Salaries for successful bank managers at large banks and main branches can reach as high as $100,000 a year.
