Fishing

George an English schoolboy, attends Wyvern boy’s school, and lives with his mother Lily in the local village of Wilton. In September he returned to school to begin year 10, his penultimate year of secondary school. A week into the term, it was announced that all year 10 students would be taking a Christmas trip to Norway to view the Norwegian traditions and festivities. All the kids were hugely excited and spent the following recess discussing their plans for the trip and what they hoped to see and bring back. For George however, coming from a single parent home, his first thought was how he was going to ask his mother for the small amount that was due to allow him to attend.

On his walk home from school, George took his normal route, and following custom, headed to the corner shop for his daily serving of candy. Whilst in the shop he noticed a small advertisement tucked in the corner of the window, for a paperboy. After enquiring with the shopkeeper, he was immediately hired, starting the following Monday morning, and began to save small amounts of money each week. November came and the deadline for the payment was fast approaching, just a few pounds short George was proud of his efforts to raise the money and started to, like the other kids, look forward to his Christmas adventure. However his mother Lily, who suffered from severe arthritis, had suddenly started experiencing extreme symptoms and following an extended period of leave from work, was struggling with the household bills and utilities. Aware of his mothers suffering and struggle, George gave up his savings to Lily and stayed home whilst everyone else left for the trip.

The following morning a news flash interrupted the regular cartoons George would watch, a plane had crashed, killing all on board. As he watched on further it became evident that the plane was carrying those from his school, his friends and teachers. George didn’t know how to react, he was devastated and shocked...
