Dehydration
When a person is dehydrated it is when the human body is deprived of the essential water that it needs to be able to function. In a typical adult the body is made up of 60% water, and in small children; but infants has the highest percentage of water which is about 70%. (Axia, 2011). Although the body contains this amount of water it is still necessary that it maintains good hydration. Water does many things in the body from bathing the cells of the body to lubricating and cleansing internal and external body surfaces. (Axia, 2011, p. 283). Water in the body helps the eyes to be lubricated, and washes out the dirt from the eyes, and cushions body compartment such as joints and the eyeballs against shocks, it helps to keep the joints and the mouth with a fluid called synovial. Water in the amniotic sac helps to protect the fetus during pregnancy. (Axia, 2011, p. 283). Blood is made up of mostly water it flows through the body to provide the body with oxygen, nutrients to the cells. Water also returns waste products to the lung and kidney for excretion (Axia, 2011, p. 283).
There are several functions that water helps the body with. “The water in blood helps keep body temperature constant, but water is also more actively involved in temperature regulation” (Axia, 2011, p. 283). Water also functions in the body by protecting the organs, and tissues. Water also helps to prevent constipation, but if there is not much water or if a person is dehydrated they may become constipated. Water will also flush the toxins off of the liver and kidney. Most of the human’s water comes from drinking, but it can also come from solid foods. It has been stated fruits and vegetables are 80% water, and 50% if found in roast beef. (Axia, 2011). Water plays an important it comes to glucose, amino acids, minerals, and other body substance. Metabolism is effect by the amounts of water that is in the body....
