The journal article review is about “Towards energy sustainability in the world: the implications of energy subsidy for developing countries”, International Journal of Energy and Environment, Volume 1, Issue 4, 2010 pp.705-714. It was written by Joseph Iwaro and Abraham Mwasha from the University if West Indies, W. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago.

Energy consumption in developing countries continue to rise align with the economic growth and development. To avoid shortage of the fuel, the only solution is to invest on energy conservation program and renewable energy source. The current program is not effective which results in difficulties in energy financing as the financing is not widely available. The journal is intended to examine the effect of energy subsidy on energy conservation and renewable energy in developing countries. . A study was conducted to identify the implication of the growing subsidy for developing countries and how the funds could be used for creating renewable energy technology and energy conservatives program in Trinidad and Tabago.

Most of the developing countries are subsidizing the energy cost to ensure sustainability of the country. The importance of the energy subsidies differs greatly between the countries. On the other hand, fuel consumption is getting higher and higher every year and it might deplete the fuel reserve in 50 years if the same situation that is happening now to continue. It is necessary to find alternative sources of energy before the fuel reserve gets to the end. By investment on energy conservation program and renewable energy source is the only solution to tackle the problem.
