Microsoft SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 is a server administration Information System allowing a business, company or organization to effectively manage information and adds the benefit of application extensibility and interoperability greatly enhancing an organizations overall success. The many applications offered by Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 maximize organizations efforts of focusing on the strategic mission accomplishment and less on the menial tasks of data administration. The use of centralized information access, personalization, task assignment and acknowledgement and work production analysis are significant Information Technology applications for the success of an organization. This paper will examine the benefits of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 as it pertains to a strategic weapon use of Information Technology. To better understand the overall information sharing power of this Information System, a brief overview of the MOSS will enhance the reader’s background knowledge of the MOSS.

Microsoft SharePoint Server is a server program offered as part of the Microsoft Office 2007 release. This server program allows for an organization to exploit collaboration, team work, information management and provides a single focal point for strategic and departmental implementation of policies and procedures (1). This Information System is a data warehouse or sorts that incorporate web based applications, database applications, and internet chat type ideals into the management of organizations information. The application is centered around the data or information that is uploaded and stored within the application, therefore the organizational structure of who is uploading, downloading, manipulates and manages this system is the backbone of the usefulness of the MOSS.
