Nihilanth Iim Iit Report

Nihilanth 2012 unfortunately saw fewer teams turning up than the previous edition. There were only two IIMs – A & L. Even the defending champions, IIMC, were missing. However, quite a few of the IITs were present, including strong teams from IITB, IITD and IITK and a large contingent of 32 from IITR. Sharat, Sujay and I were the only representatives from IIMA, which set us on the backfoot, as there are points for all finalists. Since we had only one team, whereas IIML had at least 3-4 teams attempting the elims, the numbers were always in their favour. Also, IIML had with them Sounak Chakrabarti – who was the India Quiz QM at last year’s Nihilanth – and hence had a decently strong team. However, as it proved in the end, one IIMA team was more than enough

Day 1:

The first Nihilanth quiz was the Lone Wolf quiz conducted by Thejaswi Udupa. The elims were a bit disappointing and a lot of the questions were bad. Sujay topped the elims, while I came second. The finals were much better and had a lot of good questions. Sujay took an early lead and pretty much held on to it right till the end. I was second for most of the quiz but was beaten at the end by Sounak by a small margin.

This was followed by the Sports quiz conducted by Suraj Menon. The elims were a relatively easy affair and we topped the elims with 20/25. Most of the teams had good Sports quizzers and almost all of the questions in the finals were cracked. We had taken an early lead and were leading all the way till the last question when the team from IITB beat us.
