INDIVIDUAL REPORT

BUSI 1215

Every time that I am asked to complete a group project while obtaining my Business Diploma at Kwantlen, I seem to run into the same sort of issues. The difference with this particular course, however, is that those issues have strong carry over to the criteria of the course! More common than not, while working on this project, I found myself going, “hey, that’s group think!”, or “our progress emulates the punctuated equilibrium model!” In this report I will outline some of the different challenges which I feel we faced, as well as the relevant course material which supplements.

At the beginning of our project, our group was quick to meet for the first time; however, over a month passed before we had our second meeting, and at that time, very little had actually been achieved. We did go through the traditional transition period after the second meeting, where I would say the “core” of our project was completed. Again, we went through a period with very little communication prior to a few weeks from the due date, where again progress increased right up until the day before the project was due. While we didn’t necessarily realize it at the time, our group was clearly following the punctuated equilibrium model. Had I known about this model at the beginning of the course, we could have put processes in place which would have ensured that the project wouldn’t have panned out this way. Perhaps one way to do this, for next time, would be to set much stricter guidelines for which things are do, and back them up with consequences in the group contract for not completing said tasks by the given day.

Another thing that our group found difficult was meeting face to face due to the nature of our conflicting schedules. There quite literally wasn’t a single time throughout the week, where all members of our group could meet at one given time. As a result of this, the large majority of our project was completed online, where we relied heavily...
