Introduction

This report will examine two extremely influential leaders of the 20th Century. The first is a leader who was a pioneer of their industry at the dawn of the century, the second at its dusk. Those leaders are James F. Lincoln and Warren Buffett respectively.

Through this report I will look at:

* A brief biography of the leader

* Their accomplishments

* The impact on industry the leader has made

* Global impact the leader has produced

Using this information; I will examine what I have learned and how I can use their morality and management practices to become a better manager myself in the future.

James F. Lincoln (May 14, 1883- June 23, 1965)

Biographical Information

James F. Lincoln was born on May 14th 1883 near Painesville, Ohio. His father was a Congregational minister who raised himself and his brother John to believe in conservative Christian values, including strong worth ethic. James’ family emphasized that Christian ethics have a place in all aspects of one’s life including the business world.

James entered the Ohio State University to study electrical engineering. While in school he played football for four years and was captain of the 1906 Ohio State football team that gave up zero touchdowns his senior year.

Historians believe that James’ football experience taught him the value that it takes an entire team to get a job done and that he would further use this approach to how he managed the Lincoln Electric Company.

In 1907 James contracted typhoid fever and had to drop out of college. After recovering, he decided to forgo finishing school to work full time as a salesman at his brother’s Lincoln Electric Company. John Lincoln was much more...
