MGT 445 – Organizational Negotiation

As the Miami school district has announced that they will have unexpected increase in enrollment, school boundaries for the upcoming year will be redrawn. The school board has hired experts to redraw school boundaries to be submitted for next year. Under this plan, many students will not be able to stay at their present school. Upon hearing this, parents start voicing their objections to the school board about the proposed plan for the following reasons: quality of education, increased travel time, crossing economic and cultural boundaries, affect on property values and last the social effects on the children. It is the intent of the writer to explain who the stakeholders are while designing a strategy that will address all the concerns. Last, what will the ethical and cultural affects on the decisions made?

As we look into this situation; we first need to know what a stakeholder is. A stakeholder according to Six Sigma, which is a process that is designed to track, evaluate and troubleshoot problems at work or at home. Stakeholders are individuals whom will be affected by the project or negotiation or can influence it but who are not directly involved with doing the project work. Examples are Managers affected by the project, Process Owners, People who work with the process under study, internal departments that support the process, customers, suppliers, community members, and shareholders. (Si-Sigma, 2009) . In Human Resource terms which most negotiations are based; classify stakeholders as a person or group not owning shares in an enterprise but affected by or having an interest in its operations, such as the employees, customers, local community, etc. With this known, it can be stated that the parents, teachers and other educators, community and its businesses tend to be the stakeholders in this case....
