Using ethanol fuel as an alternative source of fuel seems to be viable in the context of how it is beneficial to its consumers in Brazil. I do agree it is better for our environment for various reasons. One big reason that is a good alternative is because it is made from renewable resources such as sugar cane and corn. This is a positive aspect of using ethanol because it decreases our dependence of crude oil. Also, ethanol produces fewer emissions when compared to petroleum fuel, which is better for our environment.

The articles on air crafts being manufactured to run on ethanol do a good job arguing about the aspects of using ethanol is more cost effective in the long run. The articles indicate that it costs less to produce the biofuel, and it costs less than petroleum for consumers to purchase. It also states that air crafts suitable to use ethanol are cost effective due to less maintenance on engines because ethanol burns at a lower temperature, resulting in less wear and tear on the engines. All of these points make a good contribution on demonstrating the benefits of using ethanol.

There are also downfalls of ethanol fuel for various reasons. One good point that was indicated in an article was that there are consumers currently using ethanol in their air crafts that are not converted over to using the biofuel. There are risks when consumers do use ethanol when their air crafts are not suitable for burning ethanol. Air crafts designed for aviation gasoline are designed specifically for gasoline, not ethanol. If they use ethanol they are putting themselves in danger because ethanol can be corrosive in the gas tank and fuel lines, which can affect the performance of the engine, and can lead to engine failure and can cause the air craft to crash. This is why Brazil has made it illegal for these air crafts to use ethanol.

There are also downfalls for ethanol fuel produced for cars as well. Even though there are cars being manufactured that are “flex-fuel”...
