Introduction

Tuldok started out as an idea from a group of friends - namely Ben, Ramon, Ayeen, and Toffer. Their main thought was to create a business entity to fund an All Filipino Animated Film project. Tuldok or “dot” was chosen as the name of their group for they believe that every artwork begins with a dot. The group was therefore named as “Tuldok Indie Animation”. They knew they could not do it with only a small number of people. So they invited friends and friends of their friends and shared their idea about Tuldok.

The group went to the Cultural Center of the Philippines armed with their proposal. Unfortunately, the CCP did not have the money to support their project. But they were encouraged to apply for a grant from the National Center for Culture and the Arts. Tuldok Core Group submitted their proposal to the NCCA. Didy Evangelista submitted her AV script for “Tabi-Tabi Po” (It’s a phrase being said whenever Filipinos pass by places which are believed to be the homes of fairies, dwarfs and other mythical creatures). Sadly, Toffer Liu, a core group member, left to pursue further studies abroad.

Tuldok Indie Animation submitted their proposal to the NCCA with Ramon del Prado as the lead project proponent. Ramon presented the project proposal to the NCCA Level 1 - Cinema Committee. After a few weeks, they got the news that they passed Level 1 and the NCCA was to present the budget proposal to the Sub-Committee on the Arts. Their proposal’s progress was deferred until Tuldok submitted additional requirements regarding the distribution and promotion of the film.

Tuldok Indie Animation then had its first anniversary. Ramon then received a message from the NCCA, saying their proposal was endorsed to the Board for final evaluation.
