Vodafone is a leading UK telecommunication company and the first digital mobile operator which has been listed in London Stock Exchange since the end of 1980s. Before the name Vodafone has been given, the company was originated as a subsidiary of Racal in 1984. During that time, Racal was the only private competitor with an analogue license to the British Telecommunications. Without good marketing strategy, the parents company, Racal failed to enhance value of the firm. With the help of Chris Gent and his notable marketing skills, Vodafone initial success has strengthen its position in mobile market. Racal with its original intention to generate cash has led to the initial public offering of Vodafone‘s 20 percent of capital duly at the end of 1980s. The company then, renamed into Vodafone Group and fully demerged from its parents company in 1991.

Ever since the demerged with its parents company, Vodafone has grown stronger and become the market leader for UK digital mobile operator. Competing with other three digital networks in UK, Vodafone with internationalize ambition has led so the growth by acquisition strategy. For instance, the most notable event in growth by acquisition of Vodafone is the acquirement of Air Touch with a bid of $55billion that led to Vodafone’s share price soared during year 1998. Then, these two companies have formed the world first global mobile carrier, known as Vodafone Air Touch, which operates in five continents with its focus in Europe. Vodafone later successes are shown through its cross boundaries operation networks around the world. Today, Vodafone with its market capitalization of $92.4 billion pound in London Stock Exchange is among the biggest telecommunication company in the world. Apart from this, second listing of Vodafone in NASDAQ has proven to the world about the successful of the corporation.
