Ethical Dilemma

You are a manager for a highly technical airplane engine parts manufacturer. You are responsible for managing a team of specialists who work on building jet engines for the Defense Department. After three months, you discover that a recently hired employee who appears to be very competent, hard working, and diligent falsified her employment application in that she claimed she had a college degree when she did not. As her manager what do you do and why? As a manager, I would be faced with a battle that is considered to be unethical behavior. The questions can be answered in so many different ways. One would have to ask: Did the manager find this out on his/her own? Did human resources say something to the manager? Does the position require that you have a degree? If a degree is require how did this get overlooked by the human resources department? At this point all of my cognitive thinking capabilities are going to work. Cognitive skills are to describe them as the underlying brain skills that make it possible for us to think, remember and learn. Gentile discusses the many excuses for silence. In this particular case I would be conflicted with its not my responsibility and I want to be loyal. Many times people feel there is a conflict between doing what’s right and being loyal to their coworkers, manager or company (Gentile, 2). I would be curious to know why someone in Human Resources did not discover this before she was hired. Regardless of my status with the company this matter would have to fall in the hands of Human Resources Department. People tend to view ethical conflicts as aberrations- distractions from “real” work (Gentile, 2). The problem I would be faced with would be what is at stake here. I have a valuable employee who is considered to be a hard worker. However, this employee has lied on her application stating that she has a degree and she does not.
