The Different Components of multimedia - Text, Hypertext, Number, Audio, Images, animations and Video- Must be joined together to form a complete presentation.

A stroy Board serves as a guide to the construction of a multimedia project and shows how its different components are to be linked. There are four different types of storyboard.

Linear

The user moves through the presentaion is a set sequence. The only choices that are availabe are forward and back. This style is useful in presentation that are designed for training or testing where the user is expected to complete set tasks before moving onto the next session.

Non-Linear

Users are able to move freely through the presentaion along links that are largely unrestricted. This is ideal for content presentations such as multimedia exncyclopaedias and education tasks where users need more freedom to explore.

Hierarchial

This provides users with the ability to investigate presented materials in greater dpeth if they are interested. The inormation is still presented in a Linear fashion (by moving down thorugh the levels) but the users can choose which direction to take. This style is useful for information or leisure related tasks as it gives users the option to explore a topic in more detail.

Composite

Contains sections that are linear, Hierachial and non-linear. Most multimedia presentations have some elements of all trhee types. For example, Linear for the introduction, Hierarchial to allow users to choose a topic of interest and then Non-Linear to allow them to explore that topic.
