Question 1a.

I take notes simply by hand in a note book. These are taken as and when I need them. I reference the note to the corresponding heading and page number from the literature I’m studying. At the end of a session these notes are expanded into more concise format and transferred to computer to keep in a journal for future study.

Question 1b.

The main points on cloud computing

• Cloud computing is the term applied to accessing remote software, processing power and storage via the internet.

• It could be provided as a ‘pay as you use’ service similar to any other utility like electricity or gas.

• Reduced cost associated with not having to periodically invest in new software and hardware or internal networks.

• Users no longer need to worry about backup.

• Data in the cloud can be shared between many users and is available to view or edit from any computer anywhere in the world.

• The cloud is a physical structure. Your files are stored somewhere.

• How secure is your data on these remote services and who has a legal right to access it?

Question 2a(i).

The high cost involved in the constant upgrade of hardware and software or indeed the initial outlay in the purchase of new software, higher powered computers or local networks can be very demanding on individual’s or business users. There is now with the popularity of the internet a new approach to computing known as cloud computing. Gone are the needs for storage, software or processing power to be held locally. The cloud remotely has all this functionality by simply login into it. The services of the cloud can be provided on a ’pay as you use’ basis much like any utility such as electricity or gas. From this we get the term utility computing. By utilising the cloud a company could link many staff members from around the world with minimum I.T. investment. All staff could access backup and any software needed at any time...
