What makes a good boss?

A good boss is imperative to a successful workplace. The best bosses are serious, creative and flexibility. If a boss lacks any of these qualities, problems will certain to arise in the workplace.

While humor and kindness are important characteristics for bosses to have, work is a serious business. It must be approached with a serious attitude. A boss must keep his employees working hard and on schedule. He must set down rules, enforce them, and also personally adhere to them. If a boss comes late to work, leaves early or spends all day joking with his co-workers, then the employees will neither respect nor work hard for him. A good boss must have a serious and professional attitude that sets an example for all of the employees at the workplace.

To confront countless problems that arise every day in the workplace. A boss must be extremely creative. If a client needs the company meet the deadline earlier than expected. He must keep his employees work faster and hard. A boss who lacks of creativity might keep his employees work overtime; in this case they will feel very tired and upset. And they will work slower or produce a lower work as a result. A creative boss might spend a small amount of money to treat everyone a dinner at office to encourage them stay late. In this way, the company will meet the deadline, preserve qualities, and keep employees moral high.

Finally, the most important quality that a boss must possess is flexibility. While needing to set serious, strictly rules, they must recognize at times the rules must be bent or broken. For instance, bosses should enforce strictly attendance policies. But if an employee with an excellent attendance record need take a day off for personal reasons, they should let him do it. In this way, the employees’ loyalty to the company will be strengthened, and they will be happy and productive in the workplace.
