ORGANISATIONAL MANAGEMENT ARTICLE REVIEW

The purpose of this is to review an article from a reputable academic journal. Basically, things that will be reflected in this report includes an overview of the article content, the article will be summarized. Usefulness and impact of the article will be talked about as well and how it can impact business and management practice. Limitations and impacts will be discussed. Last but not least, an end conclusion to summarize the report. The scope of this review would be on an organization which is Air Asia. Online articles and journals are used in order to gather relevant information.

The article that I will be reviewing would be an article written by CNN,‘The rise of self-service travel’ that Air Asia has implemented few years back. Basically, this article talks about the advantages of self-service travel, for an example, printing out your own boarding pass instead of having to check-in at counters in the airport, as well as how many other organizations have implemented this system.

Self-service technology has played an important role in this industry transformation. Giovanni Bisignani, director-general of the IATA told an airline conference earlier this week.that "Paper costs money...you do not need to be a rocket scientist to understand that up to $3 billion in savings are possible." Big hotel chains, such as Hilton, InterContinental, Sheraton, and Hyatt, are starting to automate processes too. In some hotels, guests insert their credit card into a touch screen console and the reservation appears. If they follow the prompts, the kiosk spits out an electronic room key. In Malaysia, SMS -- short messaging service -- is used to field air ticket enquiries to a travel agent. You can also book seats on its budget carrier AirAsia using text. Self-service technology has the potential to improve the traveller’s experience by making traveling easier, quicker and more enjoyable.
