COURSE GOALS:

This course is designed to provide students with experiential learning. The cases are

derived from actual situations from which financial managers gained fruitful experiences. By

using more than a dozen cases in this semester, students will gain the benefit of a large number

of high-quality experience situations. It would take a person many years on the job to

accumulate experiences of such quality. In addition, the structure of the course will help ensure

that students are guided to use valid concepts, principles, and analytical methods. Some pressure

will be exerted on students to enhance the experience in that real situations also involve pressure.

Finally, this course will enable students to enhance their previously learned knowledge by

reviewing it, enlarging upon it, and then applying it to each case.

The cases covered this quarter are organized in several topic areas including the use of

accounting ratios, relevant cash flows for capital budgeting and valuation, cost of capital, capital

structure, leasing, valuation, and mergers and acquisitions. Students should...
