In this scenario, the mother has certain matters of fact related to life interactions. This factual knowledge is based on information or knowledge that can be verified and can be considered accurate. In factual knowledge related to matters of life one must consider human nature, social standards, and interpersonal relationships. These factual considerations are outlined and discussed below.

The mother can discern that the child stole the cookies from the store because the cookies are in the child's possession and have not been paid for by the mother or the child, nor were the cookies in the child's possession before the shopping trip. The mother can discern that a seven- year-old child can distinguish the difference between right and wrong and that the child can comprehend that stealing is unacceptable behavior. The mother can discern that there is a reason the child stole the cookies. The mother can discern that ignoring this behavior will likely lead to further negative behaviors and societal judgment. Because the mother is able to recognize factual information related to this incident, it is likely that she will begin to analyze this data and weigh her options for intervention.
