Who knew that I could learn so much and like it?

I began my journey to the path of my bachelor’s degree many years ago, after taking some time off to pursue a career in the United State Navy, I realized that I wanted to continue my education as well and complete my degree. I was very nervous about going back to school and working full time because school has always been a struggle for me; in particular writing classes. I have never been that strong when it came to my writing technique; developing an idea and having to explain that idea in written words clearly and concisely in a way that a reader could follow my thoughts has always been a struggle. In partaking in WRTG 101 as a class, I was hoping that this class could help me in knowing how to fully develop a thesis, how to communicate that thesis, and show me how do both of those things in a grammatically correct manner. I began WRTG 101 with limited professional writing skills and have learned to take all the lessons throughout the class and be confidant in any future writing endeavor I may have to encounter whether with school or in my career. I feel as though the skills I have developed over the course of this class will be able to help me further myself and my capabilities in my professional career.

One of the first major writing assignments we were given as a class was to compare and contrast two similar topics. I simply didn’t know where to begin. I felt like there were so many topics to choose from that I have encountered throughout life, it was hard to narrow down the options I felt like I was capable of elaborating on. I was not confident enough to know if the topic I chose would be strong enough to develop a thesis statement, and continue that into a paper worth writing for a class. I decided to poll co-workers and friends to see what topic they would choose if they had the opportunity to write a paper such as this one.
