Abstract

Thinking back I remember as all the protest from history class to the ones I have experienced personally. Having the right to defend what you believe in is important but when that right is taken away what is left? There’s a saying “when in Rome do as the romans do” this does not always work even when your in Rome, difference of opinion is what makes the world so diverse and unique without life would be strange.

The type of people who tend to become involved in movements depends upon the type of movement it is. There are many type of movements, political movements, social movements, racial movement, cultural movements etc. basically the kinds of people that tend to become involved in movements, as contributors, elders, or sympathizers come from various types of backgrounds. Every individual have different reasons for their involvement in specific movements. A person who decides to participate in a movement to support gay marriages may have ties to the movement such as themselves, a relative, or a friend may be gay and want to be married therefore they choose to support the cause. There are many reasons why people decide to support a cause each reason may or may not be personal to the individual. Take the recent movement that began with slogans, t-shirts, and buttons; the movement has brought various groups of people together, all races, class, and genders have come together to fight against illegal stop and searches by police. Noticing one slogan and one button at a time what was someone’s thoughts, feelings and idea has become a movement. It is amazing how fast a movement can begin, with simply passing on information and sharing ideas you can form groups of support. When I first saw the sign “stop and frisk” I paid no attention to the sign; however noticing one button turned into thousands of buttons and everyone joining in supporting by wearing the buttons, it is a world of a difference that is made when people come...
