Strategic Linkage - Week 1

1. I believe it is important for the Human Resources Management section to be a strategic partner to the business. The Human Resources Management team plays a pivotal role in the decision making. Their input is vital for aligning Human Resources policies and decisions with the organizational strategy and mission (DeCenzo, 2010 pg. 33). According to DeCenzo (2010), research has shown increased profitability and shareholder value by linking company strategy with human resources. Furthermore, when practices that value human capital were weighted higher, the more profitable they appeared to be. Finally, although the Human Resources Management team may appear seem to be a separate entity working within the company, it is actually an integral part of the organization and contributes to the success of the company like any other department. Human Resources should be the department responsible for coordinating all the departments and management to implement and accomplishes the strategic goals of the organization.

2. If this arrangement is established and fully accepted by management, employees stand to benefit immensely. Conversely, if the employee benefits, the company stands to benefit also.

Active Human Resources professionals can, by understanding today's workers (ranging from Gen X to Baby Boomers), find ways to balance work and family issues, making both the company and its employees successful.

Technology has created a myriad of avenues for how and where work can be performed. This has created new issues for Human Resources to resolve. In 2008, I personally witnessed to successful implementation of “Tele-Work”, a work from home initiative, in my workplace.
